As more and more states across the country legalize marijuana, thousands of people are still in prison for non-violent, cannabis related offenses.
Groups such as Last Prisoner Project are fighting to change that by advocating for the release of those incarcerated people, in addition to providing many formerly incarcerated people, like Venice resident Bentley Hatchett, with resources that help them reintegrate back into society.
Last Prisoner Project’s work also extends to policy advocacy, like their work to help pass a bill that resolved delays in California’s cannabis record sealing law, and to programs that encourage folks to write letters to people still in prison.
